In this 4-part blog series we will be focusing my 4 BrandUP Components of building a powerful Team Brand; Team Building, Communication, Personal Brand Development & Work-Life Balance. Today I am tackling Team Building Tips that will help you build trust and communication within your team.

The foundation of a successful brand goes much deeper than the perfect logo, a clever tagline, and clear core values. Business owners who strive for a solid brand know that developing their Personal Brand and Team Brand are essential to attracting leaders, building a strong workforce, and addressing the ever-important communication skills that drive a well-oiled business and magnetize ideal staff and clients.

Team Building is the most important investment you can make in your people.  It builds trust, fosters collaboration, encourages communication, saves you valuable time, and eliminates headaches in the long run.  Effective team building means more engaged employees who are good for company culture and boosting your bottom line.

Queens University of Charlotte cites that 75% of employers rate teamwork and collaboration as ‘very important’ yet only 18% of employees get teamwork evaluations at their performance reviews.

Let’s face it, as the leader, there are times you just cannot see the label from inside the bottle and need outside support to gain a clear understanding of where and why your team is not bonded, happy in their roles, or sabotaging an enjoyable work environment. How can you fix that? My Team Building Tips!

In a nutshell, team building is the process of bonding a group of individuals who work together to achieve a common goal.  My team building tips drill down into that process with actionable steps that you can implement today.

Team building tips for creating a cohesive team:

  1. Hold regular team meetings:  While it may seem obvious, many business owners do not meet with their teams consistently and that results in a disconnected group of individuals who are striving for what their interpretation of the end goal is!  When the team feels connected to each other and the vision of your company you will create a workplace culture that is positive and productive.
  2. Schedule quarterly FUN events: Companies like Zappos and Amazon know that whether it’s a mystery dinner, themed party, or day cruise on a lake, these relaxed environments to socialize enhance productivity, increase job satisfaction, build trust, and breed innovation and creativity.  When you provide fun for your team, it becomes contagious and will enhance your customer’s experience, too!!  Your team will deliver better service with a great attitude when you provide them with something to be happy about!
  3. Provide a comfortable environment:  Create a ‘work’ space that is ideal for collaboration in a more relaxed setting.  Stock healthy snacks and beverages to promote wellness in the workplace.  Healthy, happy employees are absent less often, more motivated and productive, and you will reduce costs due to employee turnover and recruitment expense.
