Micro-Actions to Amplify Your Success
If you’re not familiar with the term ‘micro-actions’ I’ll break it down for you. Micro-actions are tasks that take less than 5 minutes to accomplish and create instant and ‘stickable’ change. A simple notion such as drinking a glass of water during your morning routine will hydrate you and amp up your mind and body for the day. Small action, big reward: micro-action!
Identifying micro-actions that lead you to your visionary life begins with taking stock of your life as a whole. My 6-Point High-Performance Life Inventory is just that… a look at all aspects of your life with an expansive inventory that takes you 6 mins a day for 6 days. Heck, that qualifies them to be micro-actions, hint, hint.
Here are 3 points of my 6-Point High-Performance Life Inventory and the micro-actions you can take to improve them right now:
Time Management Micro-Actions
Make your bed at the start of your day. Doing this will give you a sense of accomplishment at the very beginning of your day, which boosts productivity and motivation.
Set a timer – or use a Time Management Hourglass – to work in hyper-focus for 50 minute increments with 10 minute breaks. This will boost your performance and productivity.
At the end of your day, review your calendar for the following day. This will give you an opportunity to note any changes to your schedule and be better prepared for the next day.
Drink 16 oz of water every 1-2 hours. By staying hydrated you will be more alert and energized, making it easier for you to manage your time throughout the day.
Career Micro-Actions
Watch a quickie how-to video that teaches you something to grow your professional skill set. You will build your confidence in the process!
Say one nice thing a day (or two or three…) to your colleagues. This will help create an uplifted work environment as well as build a positive rapport between you and your colleagues.
Recite a personal affirmation to yourself throughout the day. Your mindset is vital to your success, and affirmations have been known to improve mindsets over time. Consistency is key here!
Write a ‘real live’ note of appreciation on genuine stationery and send it to a colleague or client. This is a more personal approach that also helps build a positive rapport between you and your colleagues.
Environment Micro-Actions
Start your morning with a few minutes breathing in fresh air. Connecting with nature and being present in the moment sets a balanced tone for your day. Deep breath in through your nose… 4, 3, 2, 1. Hold it. Now exhale 4, 3, 2, 1.
Take a moment every mid-day to spruce up your surroundings. Keeping your environment organized and fresh will help improve your focus and mental clarity.
Diffuse essential oils throughout the day to elevate your mood. Aromatherapy has been proven to provide many therapeutic benefits, not to mention that essential oils simply just smell nice! The peppermint is in a diffuser on my desk and I turn it up to ‘high’ when I’m hyper-focused.
Provide yourself with 5 minutes at the end of your day to sit in silence. This will help your thoughts to settle and shift your mind to wind down for the evening.
