High Performers Start with These 5 Morning Hacks in the Shower
The way that you start your morning can set the tone for the rest of your day. Think about it; if you wake up and stumble through your morning without fully waking up then you’re likely to find yourself struggling to focus on tasks throughout the day which in turn can drain you and make you feel unmotivated. But how does one ‘get going’ and be a high achiever for their day? Well, let’s start in the shower!
Showers are often one of the first steps in a person’s morning routine. While getting clean and refreshed to start your day is a major part of showering in the morning, you can also incorporate gentle habits into your showering routine that will get both your mind and body energized and focused to tackle the day ahead. Here are 5 shower habits you can add to your morning routine that will bring out your inner high achiever.
1) Vigorously scrub your scalp
Invigorating the scalp physically wakes up the brain and helps you to be in touch with your body throughout the day. Scrubbing can also symbolize letting go of the old. Ever heard Lizzo’s Truth Hurts lyrics “Shampoo press, get you out of my hair”? Scrub out the nonsense and make room for a bright day ahead!
2) 30 seconds of cold water
Cold showers have a ton of benefits (read about them here) including increasing your endorphins and improving circulation. Spending just 30 seconds under the coldest setting of your shower can make you enthusiastic towards projects – and make you mentally sharper for the day.
3) Self-Pampering
Self-care has been linked to improving stress management which in turn helps improve focus and productivity. Self-pampering is a largely overlooked act of self-care that I encourage you to start recognizing. Nourishing my skin with luxurious scrubs and shower lotions such as Beaute Nouveau’s Butter Balm is one of the easiest ways I pamper myself for a high-performance day.
4) Face stretches
Wake up your face with some simple facial stretching. As you’re washing your hair you can stretch and tone your facial muscles by raising and lowering your eyebrows, making a ‘fish face’, or simply smiling. With your face all warmed up for any expression, you’ll be waltzing through the day in full confidence.
5) Mindfulness to start the day
Take a few moments in the shower to pause and reflect on the type of day you’re wanting to have. Imagine yourself going through your routines and marking those to-dos off your list. Speak affirmations to yourself and clear your mind of any negative thoughts. Allow the water to envelop you in warmth, washing away any distractions from your mind.
Whether you adopt all of these habits or just one, you’ll find yourself much more motivated and focused for the day.
