3 Tips to Organizing Your Closet: Whip It Into Shape For the Summer

Organizing your closet can seem very daunting, but it doesn’t need to be difficult. It can even be fun!  Here are my 3 Tips to Organizing Your Closet so you can spend your summer having fun while looking and feeling your best!

Tackle it in Small Bites

The first step is to inventory your clothing one piece at a time. If you just don’t have it in you to empty your closet all at once, do it 12 inches at a time. Challenge yourself to spend 15 minutes every day and before you know it, you’ll be done.

It stays in the closet only if it passes this quickie test:

*It fits you now. Yes, you need to try it on.
*It’s a good color for you. If you don’t know, download my FREE mobile app Color Rx.
*You feel great in it
*It’s clean and wrinkle free
*It has all of its buttons, etc.

The idea is that everything in your wardrobe is ready to wear at a moment’s notice!

Hanging space should be functional and beautiful

To ease the never-enough-space problem, divide long hanging spaces into double-hang if possible to house shorter garments, like blouses, and skirts and slacks. Devote more than half of your space to double hanging and  get the most out of the versatile arrangement.

Having the right hangers is essential to efficient closet organization. There are a number of popular hangers on the market, but my pick is Joy Mangano’s Huggable Hangers available at The Container Store, Target, and Home Shopping Network. They are streamlined velvet hangers with countless accessories that will maximize your closet space and make it beautiful, too. The velvet keeps things from slipping and the shoulders are rounded and tapered so you don’t get what I call ‘the shoulder pucker’! What I love is that you can personalize them to you! Choose your velvet color from their large selection of hues and you can customize them even more by choosing the metal tone for the hook. For instance, mine are the color Linen paired with a silver-tone hook. They’re fantastic quality, functional and fun!

If You Can’t See It You’ll Forget It

When it comes to organizing your clothing you need to be able to see everything you have. No more, “Oh my gosh, I forgot I had that!” Here’s why. You look for an item and can’t find it so you think you may have inadvertently given it away. Then you buy another. It’s a waste of money.

When it comes to shoes, you can see all of your shoes and double your space with Shoe Stax™ Your shoes remain easily accessible and organized, allowing for easy creation of outfits without rummaging through boxes or searching for missing mates. They’re compatible with most women’s shoe varieties, including wedges and open-toe styles.

Applying these 3 Tips can be fun if you have a positive mindset.  Just think about how great you’ll feel when it’s done!!  Turn on your favorite music.  Pour yourself a glass of wine or even a little bubbly because you’ll want to celebrate your achievement!
