We’re almost post-holiday and if you’re like me, your weight is up a few. Rather than beat yourself up about it, let’s roll with it. We may have the best intentions to work off those extra cookies or cheese balls, but the truth is we are where we are NOW. We want to look good NOW.
So often women put off getting a few new items (that fit) because they want to wait until they’re at their target weight. Sadly, that rarely happens. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ALL for eating healthy and exercising regularly and those results take time. During that time if we’re wearing binding, uncomfortable clothes, it’s a never-ending reminder that we’re not as thin, fit (you fill in the blank) as we’d like to be. Guess what THAT does to our psyche?
I believe we can feel beautiful in our clothes no matter how we’re feeling about our bodies! Let’s work with what we’ve got now, girls! On that note, here are a few things I do to look thinner. They work for me and they’ll work for you, too.
3 Steps to Look 10 Pounds Thinner
- The right bra– When you have a bra that fits properly, your breasts will sit above your waistline rather than adding to it. THIS ONE IS THE MOST IMPORTANT!!!
- Column of color– Wearing one solid color top-to-bottom creates the illusion of being taller and thinner. For instance; a black layering top (underpinning), black pants, black shoes or boots. You can also achieve this with a solid, simple black dress, black hose and black shoes or boots. If black is not in your palette, try chocolate brown. This is where you can pick up a new pair of pants, an underpinning or chic dress that fits your body NOW. Then you add your signature style by pairing it with a colorful jacket, sweater scarf or bold statement necklace.
- Ruching– Subtle gathers at the waistline create the look of a thinner middle and camouflages muffin-top and bra bulges. Okay… we LIKE that! Look for an underpinning with ruching and the length hits mid-hip. That way you can leave it untucked for a smooth line.
When you look thinner you feel better about you, have more confidence and get compliments. When that’s goin’ on you’ll feel like eating better and motivated to exercise more. A WIN-WIN-WIN!!
